Before the formation of Toto the members of the group did session work for Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts,[4Seals and Crofts,[4] Boz Scaggs, and Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's singer.
About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word meaning "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. 토토 꽁머니 and tour made them a household name around the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It marks a step away from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are faced with financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an alternative producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen departs and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Following this, the band broke up again. Toto returned for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Despite their acclaim, the band faced several difficulties in their later years. In 2002, drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group, and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health issues. Drummer Shem von Schroeck took over and the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take off from touring following changing the lineup of their band and a disappointing string of releases. However, the group resumed performing in 2012 following the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return form for the band, and the tour accompanied it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who had both rejoined the group.
